Alzheimer's

Note: Judith Hancox is an expert at PTSD, Anxiety and Depressive Disorders. I have the great honor of co-hosting workshops with her for over 20 years. This is her experience of helping her mom.

My mom suffered with Alzheimer's for almost ten years before I knew; I lived a good distance away. When her speech failed in the ninth year, my father told me over the telephone that she had "Aphasia." They both denied it was Alzheimer's. At my suggestion, Dad agreed to anoint her feet, neck, mastoid bone, and brain stem with Young Living's Essential Oils (E.O.'s) - Valor, Brain Balance, Clarity, Frankincense, and Peppermint daily. He gave her Peace and Calming, and Lavender as needed when she was agitated.

In the tenth year, April, 2008, she asked to stay with me, and moved in with my husband and I (in Florida)for two months. I was devastated to learn how little she could care for herself! My mom had been a most independent woman. I began an intense nutritional program with her, including NingXia Red and digestive enzymes, with other essential nutrients. I taught her my Energy Correction Meditation, which helped the whole process stay positive (www.shiome.com).

To reduce her confusion and "brain fog" as she called it, I gave her a small protein food snack every 2 hours between meals. We diluted one part E.O. with with one part V-6 Oil, and I applied 2-3 drops of the e.o.'s on brainstem, mastoid bone behind ears, around ears, kidney points on chest, and feet (sometimes temples/forehead) every morning and evening, every two-four hours, and as needed. To aide her hearing problem, we applied Helichrysm, and Sandalwood on the mastoid bone, behind ears, and sides of her ears.

We diffused the oils at night, and I did a Raindrop Technique on her feet every week. When her feet became swollen, I applied Lemon,Cypress and Pepperment Oils and the inflamation was gone within a day or two. My dad took her home, and continued using the oils every day, with traditional medicines. She went to an adult day care center, and was loved by all -- she was the only patient allowed to help in the kitchen! All her health care workers, and Alzheimer's specialists later told me they never met an advanced Alzheimer's patient with her awareness.

Although she was distressed and frustrated, and suffered significant physical and emotional pain, she acknowledged everyone's presence, and communicated her needs through some verbal, and non-verbal means. She would speak to me on the phone, and knew who my husband and I were, never losing contact with us or her surroundings.

She passed away quietly, gently, at home, on April 24, 2009, with the whole family around her. I had moved back closer to her home on April 1st. She remained conscious of all of us, until she slipped into a coma, five days before she passed away. Although I mourn that I was not able to assist her earlier in the disease phase, I know in my heart that the essential oils, and our devotion to her healing, kept her alert, and connected to us. Thanks to the essential oils' support, we had the gift of our mother's conscious presence until she slipped into her coma. She smiled, connected with us, and communicated her love to us, until that moment.

P.S. After her crossing, she whispered in my sister's ear: "I'm SO HAPPY to have my MIND BACK!"
