Please use the links at left to find out more about Essential Oils and to read people's healing stories of successful use. Nancy's own story can be found under the "Spine and Nerve" section.

Information found here refers solely to products from Young Living Essential Oils and is for educational purposes only. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease. We urge you to do the health related research necessary to learn what is right for you. Young Living uses only therapeutic grade oils. Perfume grade or poor quality oils may possibly be harmful due to unknown additives and poor plant or distillation conditions. US labeling for essential oils is governed by the Perfume Act, allowing labels to say "100% pure essential oil" and by law contain only 5% of any grade oils.

Dear Friends,

In 1988, I co-founded Holistic Alliance International, a non-profit organization on holistic health-care education. I was then invited by the Dean of Natural Health and Sciences to create a program for Morris County College in Adult Education. He also asked me to teach a refresher Nursing course on holistic health care. I have devoted myself to holistic health education for years. One of the things that is very important to me is not to promote any particular brand but rather educate on what to look for in any products that enhance life.

That was until I was introduced to the Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils as taught, sold and used in Young Living. For me, it has been life changing on all levels. So many of my loved ones, including me, have not just benefited from these oils and oil-enhanced products, but either their lives were saved or they went, like me, from a compromised immune system and unable to do many normal daily physical activities to full health.

Documented facts about Essential Oils

What Are Essential Oils
Essential oils are the subtle, aromatic and volatile liquids extracted from the flowers, seeds, leaves, stems, bark and roots of herbs, bushes, shrubs and trees through distillation. According to ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and Chinese manuscripts, priests and physicians were using essential oils thousands of years before Christ to heal the sick. They are the oldest form of medicine and cosmetic known to man and were considered more valuable than gold. There are hundreds of references to oils in the Bible. The wise men brought the Christ Child gold, frankincense and myrrh. (Clinical research now shows that frankincense oil contains very high immune stimulating properties.) Some of the precious oils which have been used since antiquity for anointing and healing the sick are: frankincense, myrrh, galbanum, hyssop, cassia, cinnamon and spikenard. Science is only now beginning to investigate the incredible healing substances found in essential oils.

The Frequency of Essential Oils
The effectiveness of essential oils cannot be fully understood without some discussion of frequency. Frequency is the measurable rate of electrical energy flow that is constant between any two points. Everything has frequency. Pure Essential Oils have very high frequency. Dr. Robert O. Becker in his book, The Body Electric, establishes that the human body has an electrical frequency and that much about a person's health can be determined by ones frequency. In 1992, Bruce Tainio of Tainio Technology, an independent division of Eastern State University in Cheny Washington, built the first frequency monitor in the world. Tainio has determined that the average frequency of the human body during the day time is 62-68 Hz. (A healthy body frequency is 62-72 Hz.) When the frequency drops the immune system is compromised. If the frequency drops to 58 Hz. cold and flu symptoms appear, at 55 Hz. diseases like Candida take hold, at 52 Hz. Epstein Bar, and at 42 Hz. Cancer. According to Dr. Royal Rife every disease has a frequency. He found that certain frequencies can prevent the development of disease and that others would destroy disease. Substances with higher frequency will destroy diseases of lower frequency. The study of frequencies raises an important question concerning the frequencies of substances we eat, breath, and absorb. Many pollutants lower healthy frequency. Processed/canned food has a frequency of zero. Fresh produce has up to 15 Hz., dry herbs from 12 to 22 Hz. and fresh herbs from 20 to 27 Hz. Essential oils start at 52 Hz. and go as high as 320 Hz., the frequency of Pure Rose Oil. Clinical research shows that essential oils have the highest frequency of any natural substance known to man creating an environment in which disease, bacteria, virus, fungus etc. cannot live.

Essential Oils Are Aromatic
Essential oils are highly aromatic and therefore many of the benefits can be obtained by simply inhaling them. This can be done by breathing in the fragrance from the bottle or can be diffused into the room. Essential oils when diffused can be the best air filtration system in the world. They will: (1) Purify by removing metallic particles and toxins from the air. (2) Increase atmospheric oxygen. (3) Destroy odors from mold, cigarettes and animals. (4) Fill the air with a fresh herbal aromatic scent. (5) Increase ozone and negative ions in the house which inhibits bacteria growth.

Essential Oils Penetrate
The penetrating characteristic of essential oils greatly enhances their ability to be effective. 100% Pure, Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils will penetrate into the body when applied to the skin. Essential oil placed on the feet will be distributed to every cell in the body in 21 minutes. They will even penetrate a finger or toe nail to treat fungus underneath.

On Diffusing Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils

Diffusing is simply distributing essential oils into the air so they clean the air and are inhaled. In your home or office, it is an ideal way to help relieve tension, dispel odors, and create an environment of peace and harmony. A diffuser disperses the oils without heating them; therefore, retaining their therapeutic benefits.

A nebulizer diffuser consists of an air pump, an oil well base, and a glass nebulizer connected by a flexible air tube. Attached to the air tube is a flow control valve. Nancy, because this type of diffusion works to put the whole oil into the air in the form of tiny droplets, it is often considered the best type of diffusion for the therapeutic use of essential oils.

Nancy, I recommend using a timer with any diffusers and setting it to run for about 10 minutes each hour.

How to use a diffuser: The Young Living Diffuser consists of an air pump, an oil well base, and a glass nebulizer connected by a flexible air tube. Attached to the air tube is a flow control valve.

Assembly: Once you remove the parts from the packaging, Nancy, the only thing left to do is connect one end of the clear plastic tube to the air pump outlet and the other end to the air inlet of the well. It's really that easy!

Operating Instructions: Pour 15 to 20 drops of oil directly into the well approximately one-quarter inch deep. Or, you may wish to place the bottle of essential oil upside down in the well located next to the nebulizer, but be sure that the plastic orifice is still in the bottle opening. Now, just turn it on.

How much oil will be used?: Thicker oils will diffuse more slowly than thinner ones. You can leave a bottle of thicker oils upside down on the well because it diffuses slowly. Thinner oils should be poured directly into the well because they diffuse quickly. Note: Never add water to oils or thin them with another substance. This could clog the jet and possibly alter the oil's effects.

Changing Oils: You can change from a single oil to a blend or from a blend to a single. Simply allow the first oil to be completely diffused. If there is too much oil left to diffuse, use the enclosed eyedropper to return it to its bottle.

Mixing Oils: Avoid mixing two or more blends, as this may change the desired results. A single oil may be added to a blend, or two single oils may be mixed together and diffused. Avoid using vegetable oils such a V-6 Mixing Oil, massage oils, or other vegetable-based oils in your diffuser. Oils of this thickness may clog the diffuser.

Cleaning the Diffuser: Disconnect the plastic tubing from the air outlet on the well. Remove the glass nebulizer and clean it with soapy water or rubbing alcohol. Seal both ends of the nebulizer and shake. Rinse with water or alcohol. Let dry completely. Use a blow dryer on low heat for quicker drying. Thoroughly clean the inside of the well with rubbing alcohol or soapy water.

How long should a diffuser be used?: In the home, a diffuser may be used for any length of time-anywhere from 5 minutes to continuous use. Short periods of 5 to 15 minutes are recommended for anyone who is experiencing oils for the first time. In large offices or commercial areas, the diffuser should be used for 15 to 30 minutes at a time until everyone in the area becomes acquainted with the oils.

Recent Developments in Quality Standards/Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oils--By Bill Popin Director of Research

Young Living Essential Oils quality programs include quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) practices that are integrated from the field to the manufacture of finished products. QC practices include hand-on controls such as sampling, inspecting, testing, re-testing, field testing, laboratory testing, clinical testing and more testing. We believe in testing. OA practices include process controls, professional oversight, and audits, among others.

The Food and Drug Administration has announced a proposed new rule for Dietary Supplement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). The proposed new rule requires that dietary supplement companies have a QC unit that is responsible for product identity, purity, quality,, strength, and composition. Young Living is committed to attaining compliance with FDA requirements. In addition, therapeutic-grade essential oils utilize research and clinical testing (as available) to address higher standards of quality, including safety and efficacy determinations.

The White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy (WHCCAMP) has issued its final report on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) on October 28, 2003. The Commission was appointed in 2000 by the-President Clinton and was charged with recommending policy changes for CAM including research, information, education, and training of practitioners. James S. Gordon MD, chaired the commission and in summarizing the findings stated. "The Commission has listened to the concerns and needs of the American people. Our report is a road map, a guide to the creation of a new medicine, one which encourages the deepest study and makes the wisest use of all healing traditions. This new medicine with its emphasis on integrations and natural products on wellness and self-care will come into being only if all those who want it insist on it in their private lives, in their professional work, and in ongoing dialog with elected officials." The final report outlines action items and recommendations including quality programs to support their vision of a "new medicine."

When researching Young Living you will possibly come across a quackwatch story. The complete rebuttal is at: http://enews.essentialscience.net/welcome.exm

Furthermore, the following website article discusses the quackwatch, the companies opposed to all alternative healing practices. It is worth reading for those concerned about what is true and what isn't: http://www.bolenreport.net/feature_articles/feature_article070.htm

And on a personal note about Gary Young and Young Living.
